Meridian Waste Tri-Corners Landfill’s Inaugural Fishing Rodeo
Opens Registration for Family-friendly Event, April 13

-Event will help to provide supplies for the E.M. Holt Elementary School’s backpack program-

Liberty, NC - March 6, 2024 - Meridian Waste North Carolina LLC,  an integrated, non-hazardous solid waste services company, is pleased to announce the company’s newest community event to be held on Saturday, April 13 from 10 am until 2 pm at Tri-Corners Landfill, 5833 Foster Store Rd. in Liberty, NC. The inaugural Tri-Corners Fishing Rodeo & Fun Fest invites community members to visit the facility for a day of fishing competition, free food, face painting, inflatables, and family fun activities. The event is designed to help neighbors and local citizens better understand what Tri-Corners Landfill does on a daily basis to manage and protect the Triad region with proper construction and demolition debris (C&D) collections, processing, and environmentally-sound disposal.

“The Tri-Corners Landfill team along with our hauling company team lead by General Manager Deanna Coble Martin, is so excited to host the landfill’s first-ever community event, just in time for Earth Day,” said Josh Gustaf, General Manager of the Tri-Corners C&D Landfill.  “We are delighted about the fun and engaging activities for Alamance County community neighbors who are interested in visiting us. Meridian Waste purchased the disposal facility in September 2023 from the Coble family. We are proud of the improvements that we have been able to implement at the site and wish to provide a unique and family-oriented day of fun and a friendly fishing competition,” he said.

Children are invited to participate in the fishing tournament from eight years of age and under, and from nine to 15 years of age. Prizes will be awarded for the heaviest fish, longest fish, and smallest fish. Other activities will include face painting, a youth-sized mechanical bull, inflatable bounce house, corn hole, and additional lawn games, a complimentary hotdog lunch, and Meridian Waste’s signature Touch-A-Truck lineup. Guests will also have the opportunity to take a hayride landfill tour to view the facility and see the daily activities of a construction & demolition (C&D) landfill.

Additionally, the event will help to provide supplies for the E.M. Holt Elementary School’s backpack program. Guests are asked to bring one or more kid-friendly canned food donations in exchange for a raffle ticket to win additional prizes.  The elementary school's backpack program sends food home with students who may not otherwise have food for the weekend.  The program, by placing items in backpacks, also helps to keep children from being embarrassed or singled out for their lack of food. The recipients include low income children, and some of the children are homeless.

The school’s ongoing food donation program, and the items most needed don't require a can opener and are easy to open including kid-friendly canned soups and food, macaroni and cheese, ramen noodles, and other pre-packaged, healthy meals that are easy to prepare.

Tri-Corners Landfill is a construction and demolition (C&D) landfill located at 5833 Foster Store Road in Liberty. For more information about the Fishing Rodeo rules and registration, additional activities and to RSVP visit tinyurl.com/FishingRodeo2024.
