 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

SINGLE STREAM RECYCLING CHANGES FOR THE CITY OF MOSCOW MILLS

Helping to Keep the Environment Clean and Green Becomes

Even Easier in the City of Moscow Mills

WHO: Meridian Waste Missouri, LLC, a subsidiary of Meridian Waste, an integrated, non-hazardous solid waste services company, and the City of Moscow Mills, Mo., are announcing the start of the Single Stream Recycling Program for all participating residents.

WHEN: Effective January 1, 2021, curbside single-stream (one cart) recycling will replace the recycling program by expanding the materials accepted for recycling. Collections begin Wednesday, January 6, 2021.

WHERE: All participating homes within the incorporated areas of the City of Moscow Mills, Mo.

WHAT: Household curbside recycling will be easier for the residents of Moscow Mills. Meridian Waste, municipally contracted, has worked with City officials to streamline the recycling program to include new types of recyclable items in one cart.

The following items are acceptable for curbside single-stream recycling: plastics (label #1 and #2); aluminum and steel cans; mixed paper (newspaper, magazines, junk mail, office paper, etc.); tissue boxes; cereal boxes; other clean fiberboard items, and corrugated cardboard (flattened with tape removed).

  • Items must be clean, with non-paper items rinsed.

  • Soiled or food-contaminated items (like greasy pizza boxes) should be placed in the non-recyclable garbage.

  • Glass and plastic bags, or plastic film, are not acceptable as they are common contaminants in the recycling stream.

For participating residents, the current recycling cart will be re-labeled with the new recycling information on Wednesday, December 30 during regular collections. Residents who are ready to opt-in to recycling can contact the City of Moscow Mills to request a recycling cart at (636) 356-4220.

WHY:“Recycling markets in the greater St. Louis area have experienced significant challenges over the last three years. We are pleased to have partnered with INC Environmental to accept, process, and re-market the recyclable collections with the single-stream program on behalf of the City of Moscow Mills and other communities we serve,” said Area President Bob Mathis. “The new single-stream recycling program will make recycling easier and more accessible to all households in hopes of greater participation to keep the environment clean and green.”

Expansion of the single-stream recycling program in Moscow Mills is just one of the updates made with Meridian Waste. Other features include:

  • Yard Waste collection will begin in March 2021 according to the following guidelines:

    • March – November: Collected weekly on the same day as trash.

    • December – February: Call Meridian Waste to schedule collection at (314) 291-3131.

    • Materials Accepted: Leaves, grass, small limbs, and branches all must be containerized with a maximum of six containers or biodegradable bags, or bundled stacks not to exceed three feet long and four inches in diameter, and not more than 50 lbs.  (equivalent to three cubic yards).

    • No commercial yard waste or treated wood.
